Hi Tim,Thanks for the tip on using Opera or MSK-144!  I can research both of
those in my quest!
The script idea is a really good one when there is a dedicated computer to
control it all.  In my case, I'm planning to use a simple MP3 player sending
audio into the mic jack and the transceiver's watchdog timer to assure it
doesn't go into eternal TX mode.
I appreciate your feedback on the other two modes.  I'm going to dig-in there
for a while to see what I can learn.
Very best wishes,Ev

Ev,

I transmit WSPR, FST4W,  FT8, FT4 and MSK144 using a MP3 audio file and
precisely control the TX timing with a script.

If you were only 1 ms "off" from "exactly 1-minute"  your could run the same
audio for 2000 transmissions or 33.33 hours.

If you plan to implement this in hardware only then  a watchdog timer can be
used to provide the synchronization every 33.33 hours.

Opera is a simple weak signal mode which requires no synchronization and is
(machine decodable).

WSJT-X MSK144  is a  mode which requires no synchronization and is (machine
decodable).

The other thing to remember is combining audio on multiple transmission you
have to decrease the power on each transmission. Same thing happens the
Fox/Hound mode in WSJT-X.  Two transmissions at the same time need half-power
on each to combine them for example.
So you'd have more power out of your beacon by playing round-robin. If you
run FT8 say on the top of the minute (and bottom) then squeeze your other modes
into the 15-second intervening period that would work. Otherwise you'd have to
have a GUI control to enable WSJT-X to transmit if you other modes take longer
than 15 seconds.

   Hi Ed,

It sounds like you are at the forefront of developing a new beacon network ;-)
I
would suggest that you consider setting up your beacons to transmit FT in the
first
and third 15 seconds of each minute, with CW and SSB each in one of the other
two
sequences. As long as your transmitter is synced with UTC, people will be able
to
 decode the FT8 sequences.
