We started to migrate to watir-webdriver late 2011, almost done now. But our experience with IEDriver at that point was not awesome. As far as I can recall one of the issues was that IEDriver could not handle untrusted certificate page anyhow. Very slow performance was second I can remember. Overall there were few other things which left not a pleasant experience compared to watir.
We might have a look at this again soon. Sorry for dummy question. Is there a way to drive IE with watir on a remote machine as a windows service (without interactive desktop session)? If yes, I would vote for using Watir as IE driver for now.
