When i tried IE WebDriver about a 6 months ago, then it was quite unstable - crashed here and there with segfaults and so on. Since i'm not good at writing any C/C++, then there's not much i can do to make it better too. That's one of the reasons, why i've improved watir-classic to have compatible API with watir-webdriver so i could run my tests against IE, Firefox and Chrome (which has also some problems, but a lot more stable than IE driver).
Looking at the facts i can't use IE driver yet, that's why i'd use watir-classic instead. I'm not proposing that watir-classic should be part of watir-webdriver, but i'm proposing that watir meta-gem should use watir-classic for IE until it's stable enough for us to recommend it to use for daily testing. It's constructive criticism and only way for me to actually help with that issue. J.
