It's worth mentioning that the Direwolf User-Guide, section 14 guides the user on how to configure Xastir with the KISS option. There is also a very good document on getting Direwolf running on the Raspberry Pi as well:

It's an excellent TNC and Section 10 gives comparisons to other TNCs where you can see the decode numbers based on the WA8MLF CD. Direwolf is the superior TNC compared to other HW implimentations and blows away Linux's legacy "soundmodem".
