Hi,
A few quick questions
I assume:
- you checked the doc
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/xcat/index.php?title=Cluster_Name_Resolution
- you have 3 xCAT network definitions
- the domain and nameservers values are set in the network defs.
- the xCAT site definition has the "forwarders" value set to the list of
all DNS name servers you are using.
- the host name on the external net is contained in the /etc/hosts file
Are the nodes on the external network defined as xCAT nodes? Did the
named.conf entry look correct? Were all the forwarders listed at the
beginning of the file?
In the meantime:
There are a couple of ways to prevent makedns from adding the external
zone.
One would be to use "makedns <noderange>" . This would just process the
xCAT nodes you provide instead of using all the nodes in /etc/hosts.
The second way would be to remove the xCAT network definition for the
external network. The makedns code should skip hostname/IP if there is
no correspnding xCAT network definition that this ip would belong to.

Subject: [xcat-user] named not working correctly after update
Hi,
I have updated xCAT from 2.7 to 2.8 to use the new support for multiple
domains. We are using two cluster-internal domains and one external
domain. When I run "makedns -n" now, xCAT also creates a zone for hosts
of this external domain which then results in resolution failures
(forwarders are set correctly). When I comment out this zone in
/etc/named.conf, everything works as expected. How can I configure xCAT
to omit creating this zone entry?
Markus
