Hi,

some more flight testing before the thunderstorms moved in today....

As already mentioned in point 7) below, there seems definitely some bug with
the
wind calculation in "circling mode" using an IPAQ 3780 (PPC 2000).  We had
pretty a pretty constant wind of approx. 20-25km/h from the west / south west.
The LX7000 confirmed this, while XCSoar calculated max. 8 km/h from the south.

Consequently the final glide calculation from XCSoar was 150-200m higher in
comparison to the LX7000, although MC on the 7000 was set only to 0,5 and in
XCSoar at 1,0.

Could you please look into that and share your experience...

As I remember, I didn't have this problem with neither version 6.09 or 6.010 on
the IPAQ.

Thanks a lot.

Cheers,
Sascha

Betreff: [Xcsoar-user] Vers. 6.10 - Flight experience & questions?

Hi,

thanks for the great work.  Today I had a chance to flight test the new 6.10
version and now I have a few questions regarding the new functions / features:

1) Could you please explain the interactions of the "arrival height display
setting" and the "reach mode setting" and the value shown on the "final glide
bar" (assuming arrival height 0, mc safety=mc manual, wind 0, goto mode)?  In
case where everything is set to straight line the arrival height and the final
glide bar value are the same as expected.  However once you set to turning or
terrain avoid. differences occur (assuming terrain height unequal to 0).

2) Same as above, but now with wind unequal to 0.  Here the final glide bar
shows a lower value than the arrival height display.  That I don't understand,
since I also expected the values to be equal (straigth line).  Could you
explain
this too please?

3) How to turn off the thermal profile (blue blob above the glide bar)?

4) With my IPAQ 3870 I used to be able to "drop markers" by pressing left on
the
central button.  It doesn't work any more (used to work in 6.09)?

5) How to turn off / on gestures?

6) How to turn off / on safety lock?

7) Could you please share your experience with the wind calculation (my
setting:
circling, since I get the gps from flarm with no air speed data)?  It seemed,
that in comparison to my LX7000 (wind: comb - zigzag and circling) the values
differed quite a lot and more than in the past during circling.  However it
could also been caused by the many wind shifts due to nearby thunderstorms and
therefore I am not entirely sure.

Sorry for the many questions - I love XCSoar and use it since version 4.2. and
I
just like to be able to explain the behavior of the glide calculator in order
to
estimate the impact of the many input parameters.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Cheers
Sascha
