That depends on what you compare it to in terms of e-mail setup.  Modern e-mail 
programs let you do a lot, and it doesn't take me a dozen mouse clicks to read 
a new message or to reply to it.

It's perfectly fine that there are different points of view.  Google Groups 
provides a good way of integrating web- and e-mail-based communication, and it 
does not require the constant policing and attention that one's own server 
brings (I speak from experience - I run a Mailman server, but use Google Groups 
as public archive).
