Andre,
Great minds think alike! An info box selected as such in the set up is what is
needed.

Hi Simon,
Thank you for your prompt response.
If showing an icon creates too many follow on issues – how about making it a
data field in an Info box?
Whoever wants/needs to see the logger status then configures this box to
display on one of the auxiliary box-pages?
The box could perhaps show the logger status (on/off) and the time since take
off (was recognised).
Showing the time gives you confidence that the logger has been recording
throughout the flight.

Andre

Hi Andre,
The issue is that the current 'red circle' icon must be altered or removed to
comply with the user interface guidelines on colour use. A circle of any other
colour does not have the same universal association with 'recording' so in
order to make it intuitive we are faced with enlarging the icon or removing it.
If the icon is removed another means of showing the logger status would be
implemented, though it would likely require touchscreen interaction or the use
of an infobox (as suggested by George Sanderson).
Thanks for registering a trac ticket for the logging issue you mentioned. It
is extremely likely that the issue you mention is linked to the PDA locking
after a certain amount of time. I must suggest that if you had a device that
didn't suffer from this issue you would probably feel more comfortable relying
on the automatic logging.

Simon

Dear Simon,
I would be in favour of keeping the icon.
The SW might be reliable, but I could have forgotten to tick the box to
enable the logger (or accidentally unticked).
Seeing it blinking there, gives me confidence.
I then also know that the logger has not stopped.
The small icon is not really taking up much “real estate” on the screen, so I
think the downside of having it is negligible.
On another related matter (I raised this before, but can’t get into TRAC, so
not formally reported):
My log stops in flight once in a while.
Happened again last week with v6.1 (on WM 6.1, using the X-scale XCSOAR
version)
It is usually fairly soon after take off.
I suspect it is to do with (but not 100% certain) my PDA switching off /
locking after a maximum of 15’ (corporate policy/rule on my PDA, can not undo
it).
Work around so far has been to remember clicking on the screen every couple
of minutes, but when you get busy, this is not always practical.

Andre
