As a user, I would vote for leaving it as it is.  The first time I noticed
it, I hadn't read in the manual what it was, but immediately thought "that
looks like 'record' to me".  Regardless of any standard that declares that
red must ONLY be used for warnings, I doubt anyone would assume that tiny
blinking red circle, with NO text explaining it, is a warning of a problem. 
XCSoar developers have consistantly demonstrated a rational approach the
displays, and as such, I wouldn't expect they'd put a 'warning' in the very
corner of the display. All other warnings are pretty much IN YOUR FACE.
Unless the developers are receiving an overwhelming number of complaints or
questions,  I'd leave it alone.
