Hi Paul,
we are happy to see that you would like to help our users. As you might have
noticed the manual is a little out of date and if you would like to help on
that topic let me know once you've learned how to use the application.
As for the questions, here are my answers:
- What hardware platform (PDA/PNA/phone) are you running XCSoar on?****
Asus MyPal A636 (Window Mobile 5) and I recently bought a Dell Streak 5 with
Android which I will use from next season on
- What GPS are you using with XCSoar? Is it built-in to your PDA/PNA or
connected to your PDA using a cable connection, or BlueTooth, or…?****
In club planes without connectors the internal GPS, otherwise
cable-connection to a FLARM to use the radar feature of XCSoar
- Is your PDA/PNA connected to a soaring flight computer? If so, is it a
cable connection or BlueTooth, or …?****
Not yet, but using the IOIO for the Dell Streak I'm thinking about
connecting it to my DX50 in addition to the FLARM
- If you are using a BlueTooth connection – is it reliable and easy to use?*
***
I've tested a cheap BT adapter and it worked, but I don't trust those
systems and since I need a power cable anyway it might as well carry the
data aswell
- If you are using cables, where did you get them? I’d love to be able to
supply Goddard built cables for XCSoar users. Any PDA/PNA connector wiring
diagrams would be greatly appreciated.
Asus A636: Bought a serial cable when they were still available. After that
I reverse-engineered the pin assignment and soldered serveral USB cables to
serial cables.
Dell Streak: Take a look at our forum. Rob posted a link to some wiring
diagrams for the IOIO platform which is basically an USB-serial converter
for Android + much, much more
