Hi Robert

It is a good question. We used to have lots of wiki pages on different
configurations that people recommended, but they have unfortunately vanished.
It would be good if we could find these again, maybe even create a bit of code
that can take the preferences file and generate some screens. Should not be too
hard. One task we have not finished is an online configuration system that
would make that easier - that said however the new XCSoar is MUCH MUCH easier
to use and configure than the v4 and v5 so it is not quite as necessary.

My recommendation is something like this:

* On Cruise, Final Glide and Climb
        - Next waypoint: distance, bearing, name - put them in the same place
* For Cruise & Climb
        - MacCready setting
* For Cruise
        - Last thermal average (which is useful for setting MacCready - but you
can use auto now to achieve better results)
* For Climb
        - XCSoar is my Vario, so I use 30 sec average, etc
        - Total climb this thermal
* AUX 1
        - Time flying
        - Sunset
        - Extra bearings etc to waypoint, useful when people want to find you

That should get you started. Everyone will have a different opinion on what is
best on each screen, including you :-) Open up the manual as it has an
excellent list of what each info box means and does.

Good luck.

Scott

The demand for IT networking professionals continues to grow, and the
demand for specialized networking skills is growing even more rapidly.
Take a complimentary Learning@Cisco Self-Assessment and learn
