Some time ago i implemented such a feature. The source code is available at: http://git.xcsoar.org/cgit/hao/xcsoar.git/ On android it is even possible to open arbitrary files with an external application, e.g. PDF files with reporting points or other approach information. So far i got no feedback whatsoever. The only reason that i can think of, somebody would not merge it, is that it slightly increases memory usage for each waypoint even without any image. But this can be easily optimized later.
