Last August, trying to make it back to Moriarty late in the afternoon, during a
declared triangle and with a stiff headwind, I came across the same XCSoar
situation that Ramy brought up. It was not what I expected, and I did not want
to see that I was 6000' below glide slope to make it back home, but going
through the different MC settings, saw the trend and realized that stopping to
thermal, the drift, which was quite real,  would cause the differences in the
display. I have no problem with the way it is now, as it is actually
informative. I have been using XCSoar prior to version 5.0 and appreciate the
long hours and great effort.  Good work guys. BTW made it back eventually with
a straight in approach to runway 26. It was tough, but ultimately rewarding.
How about an info box " Thermal Strength Required To Overcome Drift"  ; ^ ) jk.

Best regards to all.

Mike
