Another very handy use of the XCsoar flarm radar is to check the range for
the Flarm.
I maintain the Flarms in my club and often they have the RF chip that is
damaged, they work only at short range. Relying on the info provided by the
club members flying in each glider has proved inaccurate and I needed a way
to verify the range without flying.
The flarm radar tells you the range of the other flarm, usually if I get
over 500m range on the ground then the flarm range is acceptable. 
If you just have the leds you do not know which other flarm you are picking
up.

Correct.

Not quite right since we do show targets with alerts in a different color
and deemphasize the other targets in such a situation. I agree though that
our flarm radar should _not_ replace a proper display that is dedicated to
alerts!
