Hi I was discussing this with a few pilots here at the multi-class comps. The idea is that it would be useful in some circumstances to have XCSoar be able to provide information to some non task turn point without having to abort the task to do so.
This would be particularly useful when having to cross unlandable terrain as XCSoar could provide information on a point behind you (perhaps a dropped point on a landable paddock) whilst continuing on task. I used to do this with my old Cambridge Nav system.
