Unfortunately, I don't think DTDs are going anywhere any time soon. And
even when schema is fully alive and well, I think many people will argue
that there is still a use for a small, simple and fast lexical validation
mechanism. For many people, in controlled circumstances, even the overhead
of enabling namespace processing will be a waste perhaps. For some people,
a schema (and all of the overhead in a schema validator) will be like using
a sledgehammer to kill gnats.

And of course there will probably be stuff brought forward from the SGML
world which will probably be brought forward with DTDs, at least at first.

You mean switch to XML schema or use nothing?

(Same argument that applies for DTD also applies for XML schema, same
element content model)
