I sent that message.  If I remember correctly, 1280x960 and 1600x1200
worked for me with the standard Debian drivers from unstable.  I was
thinking that it might have something to do with the pixel ratio.  The
ones that work are all in the 4/3 ratio, but 1280x1024 is something else.
Actually, I remember trying 1440x1080 (which is also 4/3) and that didn't
work either...But 1600x1200 _did_ work, so it's not just resolutions that
are higher than 1280x1024.
