Just in case you have not seen any of my posts on the "no/distorted display after suspend" problem, there is a work-around.
Switch to a character display (CTRL-ALT-F2) Turn off the display (usually Fn-F3 on ThinkPads) Turn display on (Any key) Switch back to X (Alt-F9 on FreeBSD, maybe something else on your OS) To avoid the problem, switch to a character display before suspending.
