I too am having difficulties like David is having. I used the Xinstall
script, and allowed it overwrite files that it asked to overwrite. I
saved the original /etc/X11 in hopes of being able to fix any problems,
but I can't seem to do it. In my case I copied some files back to
/etc/X11 and now gdmchooser goes in an endless loop. If I use startx
things work well. If I change the greeter to "standard greeter" using
gdmsetup, things work better, but when I try to logout of my X session,
it just kills the window manager and the X session stays. Any advice on
this is greatly appreciated.
