This is the situation: I'm running redhat 9.0 (XFree86 4.3) on a Dell laptop and trying to display on this linux box the graphic output from a CAD tool (cadence) running on a Sun Solaris machine. For reasons which are not clear, Cadence runs in 8 bit mode only. One option is setting the video mode of the linux box to 8 bit. This of course would have an impact on the display resolution.
The other way is 8 plane+24 plane overlay. Is this operating mode supported by XFree86 4.3? If the answer is yes, how can it be enabled?
