Gerard,

I have concerns.

1. Your DTD is completely US-centric, that is, all the tag names are locked
into US English. How will you have multilingual support within your
documents?

2. There are hundreds of EDI document types. How long will it take Netfish
to create DTDs to enable translation to as many documents as XEDI
[http://www.xedi.org] now supports? For a subset of the list see
http://www.xmls.com/products/xedi/xedidocs.html.

3. How will you support multiple versions of X12 (3040, 4010, etc.) and
EDIFACT (96a, 97a, etc.)? How long till that support arrives?

4. You representation of EDI in XML seems arbitary. What are the underlying
rule(s) you are applying to generate your DTDs? For instance, why is there
no underscore between "sale" and "deferred" in the element named
"ITD_Terms_of_SaleDeferred_Terms_of_Sale"?

5. Why is there no looping structure?

6. How do I reuse elements across document types? For instance, the N1
element is defined in each DTD.

7. How does your DTD handle multiple ISA, GS and ST loops? Where does all
the ISA and GS data go?

Subject: DTD's

All-

Due to the number of responses inquiring about the
Netfish DTD's, I have enclosed three DTD's for your
review. Our DTD's will be published on the Netfish
website at www.netfish.com in the coming weeks.
Again, these DTD's were developed for the Netfish EDI
Service solution which transforms XML-EDI data, based
upon formatted documents using these DTD's, to X12 and
EDIFACT data.

Our transformers also behave in the reverse manner as
well, transforming Inbound X12 flat file system data
to XML-EDI representation of the data and loaded into
the Netfish XDI Server software and eventually
imported into the backend ERP system such as SAP,
BAAN, or Oracle. The Netfish Technologies XDI Server
is a 100% XML Solution with built in EDI flat file
system adapters.

These DTD's are also used at map time, where the
Netfish XDI Mapper can be used to map data to adhere
to Trading Partners' EDI Guidelines.

Please let me know if you have any questions or
concerns.
