Every body keeps trotting out this mantra.

Take care - what is coming at you in W3C schema may not be 
delivering on your perceived business need...and may be not 
even close.

BTW - where do you think 'rigorous datatyping' should be done?
(I'll ignore what you see as 'rigorous datatyping' just for now).

1) on the client / sender end

2) in the XML parser in the wire format

3) by your business applications

Notice that if 2) you may face the situation that the transport system
fails to deliver your content due to incompatible validation behaviours
that you then have no control over.

The old proverb - be careful for what you wish.
