That's right. That's why we also have command insertCharByName. See
attached screenshot. Notice that this dialog box supports auto-completion.

By default, command insertCharByName is bound to "Esc n" (_n_ like _n_ame).

Please type "Esc n" and you'll be able to pick a character by its
commonly used entity name (e.g. mdash).

PS 1: Note that in the case of a DITA document, this command currently
only displays mdash. This shortcoming has been addressed in the next
release (v4.8, to be released next week).

PS 2: Did you know that the "Characters" palette has a "Favorites"
feature which allows you to group the special characters you use the
most. More information here:
