I can't say I'm a big fan of hidden commands. Where in the GUI would I
discover this functionality? As a user, I expect that to be a function
available either through the menubar or a toolbar button on the
Characters palette.

Keep in mind I'm the kind of dim bulb who has in fact seen that
quickrefcard-Mac-Letter.pdf card, and *utterly failed* to take note of
the triple-star emphasized keyboard command that takes us 90% of the way
to the functionality I seek. D-oh.

That said, this
      http://www.unicode.org/charts/charindex.html
is the lookup table I want to use.

There are a ton of correct punctuation and letter forms, and commonly
useful symbols, that can be accessed by specific name, or easily found
in name groups.
