XXE has many ways to set user preferences without asking the user to
launch the interactive application.
For example:
* -putprefs property_file_or_URL command-line option.
See

* the XXE_USER_PREFERENCES environment variable.
See

Please first try to use one of the above facilities in your working
environment and if you find problems or limitations with them (e.g. it
does not work with convertdoc; it does not work with Java Web Start;
etc), please be kind enough to file a bug report.
Thank you for your reply; we know about the above and already use it
when it is required for XXE to work as expected for us (e.g. For turning
off the cache mechanism), but it does not completely fit the bill here.
The need is to be able to set the default users preferences globally
(the "putref" mechanism is not really suited for this), but still
allowing individual end users to set their own preferences if they wish to.
The *XXE_USER_PREFERENCES* mechanism would be OK if it wouldn't prevent
XXE from loading standard user preferences file; that why we suggested
to simply extend this mechanism to order to allow loading several files
in turn.
Just forget about our suggestion if you think the mechanism provided
right now by XXE for users preferences is sufficient.
Best regards,
Philippe.
