I think a 4x4x4 cube has too many dark entries; I'd rather weight the
values so that it uses more light entries instead.

Can DPS handle a non-uniform set of colors?  Render is happy with 
essentially any set, but I suspect DPS will want to use relatively 
simplistic dithering...
