I do this all the time, Tina! I can do French knots, but I prefer to (k)not do
them. Nine times out of ten I don't like the look of the knot, whether I am
working on aida or evenweave. Back when I did a lot of embroidery (much more
closely woven fabrics) FKs weren't so hard, nowadays I find they want to
disappear behind the fabric no matter what I do, unless I make the reentry
point much further away from the comeup point...and then it looks lousy. On
the other hand, beads give a special sparkle to a project, IMO.

I just try to match the intended floss as closely as I can with the beads
(except in rare circumstances when I didn't like the designer's choice of
color in the first place, then I chose my own color). I use one strand of the
intended floss to secure the bead in place. 

There's just something about beading a piece instead of using FKs that can
make even a kit design look superspecial. :)
