Dolphin was wonderful: split-screen, *and* it handled smb: properly. Then someone broke all the icons, and it became unusable. I'd love to know how to put the icons back wherever they were that worked. Thunar works, but is a poor substitute.
Well, that's a relief: At least it wasn't something I did.*
I've used KDE 1 - 4 for years, with Xfce off and on. I just replaced CentOS 6.8 / KDE4 with Xubuntu 16 LTS (gave Kubuntu a shot in a VM first, but KDE5 was a bit too much like 'Vista meets Mac" for me personally). I, too, saw the same thing from Dolphin. I was going to install Krusader, but after looking at PCmanFM, it may not be necessary. Right now, I have several installed and hope to compare: Thunar, PCmanFM, Double Commander, X File Explorer and SpaceFM. Who knows what else I'll find before I settle on one.
* I thought I had done something wrong, not installed some required KDE support lib, etc., when I saw Dolphin. I guess it wasn't me. :-) To a degree, Okular also appeared to be slightly broken icon-wise, but that was only a quick glance. Maybe not.
