Another idea, if you are able to play on other systems; the Aspire, if it
is using the Intel chips may be using the Intel atom chipset to handle
audio/video... I had an Aspire; twice.  The first w/ AMD served well for
nearly 8 years under Linux.  The second, the replacement with Intel, froze;
complete and none responsive.  So bad it left no error logs.  To the best
of my ability to troubleshoot and research I believe the atom chipset was
responsible.  Might be worth looking into and then seeing if there are
supporting atom drivers for Linux on the Acer site or elsewhere.
