I think you may just have solved a problem for me too. I install a lot
of Ubuntu-based systems, and I have often found that my USB stick simply
wouldn't boot any further than the splash screen. Maybe the 3.0 ports
are the problem (although I could swear that a couple of the older
machines simply didn't have USB 3.0 but I can check). So thank you!

Most distributions explicitly ask you after the "Restart Now" button,
something like "Please remove the installation media and press Enter" or
something similar. I thought Xubuntu was among them...maybe not 18

Next, we'll have to get you into using Enlightenment as your window
