interactionDetectionFactor is more aimed at CREATING distant interactions, not for deleting them. It is not supposed to be used for cohesive interactions (it's been introduced for capillary interactions). Using interactionDetectionFactor>1 just to make cohesive contacts work in tension would be a waste of resources. Using interactionDetectionFactor=1 and computing geometry for real interactions only is the way to compute only what is needed.
