Hi again Linda,

You answered part of my question but did not say if you are on dial-up or
high-speed internet (DSL or Cable Modem)?

Since you have two computers, each computer has it's own modem for
connecting to the internet... I'm guessing you have a router with wireless
capabilities. Is the desktop wireless or is it plugged into an ethernet
connection or USB connection?

Did you have someone hook up your network? Is it someone you could ask to
come by and check the ethernet and modem settings on both machines?

I would suspect it's something to do with your network internet connections
rather than YM but you could also have a fouled up installation on the
desktop.

If you don't have someone who is proficient in setting up a home network and
tweaking the settings, you could opt for uninstalling YM from the desktop.
Cleaning the registry using WinASO Registry Optimizer or the registry
cleaner of your choice. Then downloading the FULL version of YM from
http://www.filehippo.com/download_yahoo_messenger/ and then reinstall YM.
If you use Messenger.Yahoo.com to install YM, you start off with a very
small application (450KB), which then has to finish downloading everything,
instead of getting the full version or around 10MB. I've seen lots of
issues with YM when people use the small application instead of the full
version.

I am using wireless. I have a laptop that is logged on to one ID.
It has no problems staying online. The desktop is logged on to a different
ID and it is the one that is getting booted. I would think if it is a
connection problem, it would be happening with both computers
