Granted, we can respect the decision; but I, for one would
like to understand it's motive.

Maqabane, we are now travelling through unchartered waters.
These are unchartered waters, because; whilst there have
been breakaways from the party before, this is the first
after 14 years of democracy. This period has exposed the
vulnerable underbelly of the ANC. That is: the ANC has got
unimpeachable policies; but it has been severely challenged
in translating them to reality for the reasons that I will
enumerate anon.

* ANC cadres have been diluted by opportunists who joined
the organisation for the sole purpose of accessing power
and using it to benefit themselves and not to create "a
better life for all"
* The ANC cadreship was largely vulnerable to the
machinations of the '96 Class Project which usurped all the
power to limit the influence of the working class in
transformative discourse and implementation
* The ANC did not forsee and act accordingly to prevent
the warnings and developments contained in Kwame Nkruma's
works on neocolonialism, in particular the role of the
bureacracy in acting as stumbling blocks to genuine
transformation of public and private institutions to
benefit the working class (the working poor and the poorest
of the poor)
* The ANC could not prevent the schemes of the snake-oil
salesmen namely the capitalist class from using parliament
as its errand boy through sophisticated and corrupt
lobbying mechanisms
* The ANC could not stop the tide of nepotism in the
appointment of public service personnel

These have resulted in the following problems:

* The growth of a kleptocratic beureaucracy and public
representatives, who were not properly censured. You will
remember the Telkom debacle, the feeding scheme which lost
millions, the housing projects that were sold to illegal
expatriates, the Ministers who benefited from irregular
public tenders, the Minister who let a snake-oil salesman
give "vitamins" to HIV & AIDS patients, the Gautrain, the
Pebble Bed Modular Reactor rumoured to be a project of
former Eskom and government people, the rumoured funding of
former politicians by financial institutions whilst they
were still in office
* Poor service delivery as a result of the role of
uninformed, opportunistic cadres in service delivery;
nepotism; corruption and ineptitude.
* The growth of the culture of impunity, because the
anti-corruption exercise only focussed on perceived enemies
of the '96 Class Project.
* The lack of clarity about who exactly are the
beneficiaries of the infamous arms deal, which when fully
opened can reveal shocking, disappointing and discouraging
facts.
* A parasitic relationship between the former
administration and the press which allowed unverified,
strategic and potentially career-damaging leakages and
hints about perceived enemies of the '96 Class Project to
be published in national newspapers on a consistent basis
* The growth of an uncaring public administration and
government which sought to punish public servants by
witholding a living wage from them whilst consistently
increasing the wages of public representatives some of whom
slept during parliamentary sessions or used public
resources for private holiday jaunts or took their partners
on overseas trips at state expense without authorisation or
fired public service employees willy-nilly and costing the
state millions of rand as a result, to name a few. The
absence of care went into unending and fruitless debates
about whether HIV causes AIDS suggesting that if you
contracted HIV it's your own indaba. The absence of care
resulted in deserving people on lists for public benefits
being shafted for people who do not deserve them such as
public servants, their relatives and illegal expatriates.
* This allowed the enemies of the people i.e. the '96
Class Project to amass enough critical mass (financial)to
begin thinking that they can challenge the party of the
people as it attempts to correct all these wrongs.
* This allowed the media establishment, with very few
exceptions to take position on the side of the '96 Class
Project and to continue to barrage our people with slanted
and biased stories about the failures of the ANC and
attribute them to the current leadership and to exaggerate
the influence of the sell-out party on our people.

So, Madiba may be balancing quite precariously in the
middle hoping not to be tainted, because indedd there is
plenty of mudslinging as a result of these developments;
but as we know no-one can sit on the fence for a long time.
Remember the ANC never, ever belonged to the faint-hearted.
We lick our wounds and get up to fight another day.
