Morning Cadres

Thanks for your speedy response gester. I think we are well in agreement.
Matimba's proposal is sound, but u see comrades we can’t limit this to
just former SASCO leadership, we all know politics around succession. And
I wuld not want us cader Funky and Sjijo to take the more institutionally
structured route of alumina/convocation or saus for that matter, as much
as these organisations have a role to play, they have not done anything
which can be seen as preventative to the plight of students at TUT as per
their PoA, or students in HE at large, I can speak to this with some
authority as i was there at all these launches when all those strategic
goals were set, besides there is to many politics around them.

Phasha & Mdu your assesments of the situation is spot on. What really does
worry me is tendencies of individuals in organised workers formations
acting to what seems to me and the rest of us as ‘opportunistic’ and Mdu’s
assessments of the 2007 strike(s) says a lot about that.

I would therefore recommend the following steps.

1. We get clear reports on the PYA and other structures (SAUS, Alumina,
convocation, ect.) interventions.
2. We get clear reports from the TUT as well as Nehawu on what the impasse
is REALLY.
3. We set up a task team to do the above. The task team must use different
e & communication forums to call a ‘meeting’ of all progressive forces by
next week. it can be on Friday 20th February in the late afternoon, to
accommodate those who are out of civilisation (lol Gauteng)
4. for task team would suggest the following, that Phasha coordinate those
caders in Limpopo, Funky & Mdu coordinate Mpumalanga, Tsholo, Reggie &
Matimba, Masuku coordinate Gauteng. Tom, Given and others coordinate point
1 & 2 above.
5. We can get other cadres to assist the task team, this is not casting
stone as this is just a task team to gather progressive minds.
6. Lastly; comrades we need to be bold and pragmatic, as far as I can
recall there has been at least 2 student strikes and 1 union strike year
on year since Tyobeka and his EMC took office.
a. The only conclusion after 5 years is that we call boldly for his head
and the immediate restructuring of that EMC & Council.
b. DoE must be more hands on with regard to revisiting the aims of merger
and getting them on track.
If there are other different views to this one, of which we must agree on,
in our Friday 20th February meeting, pls lets engage!!

• Oh we must also call the union (or individuals in the union) into order
as they are really not assisting.

A Luta…..
