Greetings Comrades I read the statement released by SANMVA and came across nothing that suggest mischief. Their articulation is very sober and well reasoned.
Why on earth they are reduced to boys and girls is beyond my comprehension. These are people who dedicated their lives for the freedom of all of us, and quite strangely we thank them by insults. Comrades, our struggle as a nation is yet to bear fruits, we need to focus, entrench our democracy, uphold its institutions, educate our children and care for the sick. Beyond that we need to ensure that workers have a decent living wage, have access to the fruits of freedom and can rightly claim their stake in the democratic society. SANMVA boldly pronounced on its support for the course of workers on strike, they are also saying in expressing our rights, we should also be careful that we do not compromise the rights of others. The point is, the supreme right is the right to life, irrespective of whether or not you happen to depend on the mercy of aggrieved workers whose rights to fair remuneration is at stake. In view of the above, that is why SANMVA is not saying workers on strike should be summarily dismissed or forced by court orders or through the barrel of a gun to come to work. SANMVA is pleading with those who are free willing to come to the rescue of the sick, terminally ill and people with life-threatening deceases. In short the request (which is very clear) is to respect the rights of workers, but also in the same stroke respect the rights of people in hospitals and other medical centres in as far as life is concerned. My observation is that as working class we tend to quickly resort to insults and belittling of others differing with us in articulation and conviction. A lesson from the capitalist class is that they are always in agreement when their collective interests are threatened. The other day they all came out to pressure our government, through lobbying and threatening (though very subtle) to clarify its position on mine nationalisation. Why cant we collectively protects our rights and interests as a class without tendencies of mutual annihilation?
