Scabbing is inexcusable. The fact that healthworkers have felt the need to strike and disrupt the normal running of hospitals, etc should be blamed on the capitalists and their government.
However, there is a fine working class tradition of strikers doing their best to ensure that their actions do not jeopardise the health or safety of their fellow workers or their children. Striking healthworkers make sure that there is emergency cover and so on. I am in London and so it is difficult for me to get the whole picture. I have read scare stories about starving, unattended babies being rescued from hospital wards, but have not seen any union statement denying such stories. What is the truth about the cover provided by strikers? SANMVA is pleading with those who are free willing to come to the rescue of the sick, terminally ill and people with life-threatening deceases. In short the request (which is very clear) is to respect the rights of workers, but also in the same stroke respect the rights of people in hospitals and other medical centres in as far as life is concerned. My observation is that as working class we tend to quickly resort to insults and belittling of others differing with us in articulation and conviction. A lesson from the capitalist class is that they are always in agreement when their collective interests are threatened. The other day they all came out to pressure our government, through lobbying and threatening (though very subtle) to clarify its position on mine nationalisation. Why cant we collectively protects our rights and interests as a class without tendencies of mutual annihilation?
