Stocks rallied strongly in Asia and U.S. cheered the market throughout the day. Short covering in rate sensitive and fresh long build up in major heavyweights boosted the markets higher. The Nifty index closed above the 2700 mark in the late trades while the Sensex ended above the 8700 level. In addition, a firm start to equity markets across Europe also boosted the sentiments on Dalal-Street. Finally the Sensex surged 412 points to close at 8,756 and the Nifty rose 101 at 2,719.
