Forums are Usenet, only worse - who ever invented that mechanic did something wrong imho.
oh not another mailing list that wants to become a forum..I think the crucial factor is that you have to go and look. Admittedly I don't post much here, but I would not bother with a forum. Macspeech is having the same conversation.
I remember when it was all 'oh, let's have an email list, that would be the way to go'. But that was a *good* move:-)
In mailsmith, it's so easy. I have a shortcut that marks the message with a label and goes to next. Then I periodically refilter the mailbox and throw out anything I read which is not marked. Result: a really useful set of mails left in there for reference. Recreating that kind of utility from a forum is virtually impossible (and printing pdf to Yojimbo would not be anything like as useful, because half the messages are things to act when I get a minute, and they stay there for months sometimes...)
