I'm on the exact opposite and never keep up with online forums, I want
it in my inbox where I can skim and read and think without the need of
clicks and login and cutsy icons and whatnot. I can follow 10 email
lists at one swoop glance and digest as much as I can with one single
online forum. But that's me. People trying to tell me how "out" list
servers are but well, if you really want to work through high volume of
messages you really don't want to click your way through it all. I do
hope there are enough others who share some of my viewpoints and that
this list won't die.

Although I haven't posted, I have to agree that mailing lists are superior than forums for my purpose. If the list becomes a forum, I would never bother to go check it out. I'm not interested in adding yet another website to my list of sites to visit daily. Already I don't go to more than half of them. I also find interacting with web- based forums to be much less convenient that interacting with my mail client.
