Most times I've heard the database vs individual files decision explained in terms of performance. Generally speaking a DB will be much faster, if I recall correctly. Encryption can be done on any file, so that's a non-issue. .Mac sync isn't working for me anyway. I'd trade reliable syncing for just about anything ATM.
