If a database is being written to during a backup the backup can be corrupt. Since Time Machine backs up hourly, the chances of Time Machine doing a copy while Entourage is being used it pretty high. Besides the stress of copying hourly the entire database that could be several GB. I remember way back when Retrospect users would ask about this same problem. If you want safe backups 100% of the time. Quit Entourage and the Microsoft Database daemon first.
