This is not normal behavior. When you move a folder you do not need
permissions.

Let's do a quick test...

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

Open Entourage. Does it open?

Next try Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Do they work now?

If yes, then from your feedback on your skill level, I suggest just moving
to the new User's account.
