True, I thought you were referring to safe boot. Then it's one more reason for me to skip the step. You can just as well quit whatever process you want from the Activity Monitor without having to log out and back in. And again, the updater does tell you that Office applications are running and asks you to quit them. The Office 2008 updater is much smarter in many respects than the previous ones ever were.
