When you hold down the Option key when launching Entourage, the database
utility will open and you can select to rebuild. At some point you must
have been forced into a rebuild to get the 'old database' file.

If Entourage will open and you can export, this is a better option than
trying to rebuild. Note, however, that dragging to the desktop might not
get all the messages. You need to compare the number of messages in each
folder. If all did not export, you need to divide the folder into parts
and eventually you'll find the bad message to delete.

I work with clients on a fee basis if you get stuck. You can contact me
off list for help.
