I have thinking about this regularly. But you can just boot > e.g. console-image from some media.. i'm gonna advocate for the console entry in kexecboot ; here is why. * i do not have a SD card dedicated for another system (like a quick console-image), so everytime i need to use another system to rescue, i have to pick the SD from my camera, save all, format, install the image, boot on it (...). i could buy one you will tell me :) * for some new-kernel testing, if the new kernel fails to run correctly, it would be more quick to just log from kexecboot, mount and change the ln -s in the /boot entry to try another image, (and maybe rescan from kexecboot after) instead of booting an other image, mount the fs with erroneous boot entry, ln -s zImage, reboot... * for other minor change like the ln -s told above (change fstab...) same as above. I totally understand that it could make the kexecboot too heavy, more longer to start... I'm also aware that it could become a time eater for you to make it happens, especially if i'm the only person who would occasionnaly use it. I wonder what other people think. i just told why i would prefer with the console, i'm open and curious about other people opinion.
