Hi Bill,
Sorry for not being clear. These are preliminary anyway. Do suggest
what you prefer...
There will be two programs arriving to one Christian area.
1. There will be advertising to people who suffer from health
issues. They will be directed to learn chan meditation, which has
more Chinese Medicine and no religious or spiritual content, with
just meditate. In this site, we will make them aware that there
are spiritual benefits for Christians and Buddhists. Then they
can click on to Christian or Buddhist testimonials, how to apply
this meditative technique/states/mindset to God, etc. etc.
2. There will also be an advocacy program, making people aware the
benefits of Meditate First, through Facebook, In which every way
to meditate is acceptable, yet we recommend the Chan/zen way if
asked. In this advocacy program, deepening our connection to God
is also listed as one link for Christian.
The intent is not to impose Chan/Zen onto anyone. Just do our best to
describe Chan/Zen technique/mindset/spirituality in Christian terms, if
doable.
Well? What do you think?
Thank you with a bow,
JMJM

JMJM,
This is not what I thought you meant, although I still might
interested in this activity also.
What kind of meditation are you intending to teach/recommend?
Christianity already has lots of meditative practices. An example is
the Catholic ritual of praying using Rosary Beads. This involves
reciting the Apostle's Creed at the crucifix, an 'Our Father' at the
first large bead, three 'Hail Marys' on the next three beads, then a
'Glory be to the Father' on the next large bead, and then proceeds
with the cyclic repetition of 'Hail Marys' and 'Our Fathers'.
The constant repetition of all these short prayers soon become similar
to chanting mantras or working on a breakthrough koan and can result
in the cessation of the descriminating mind.
I've never heard of any Christian meditation that was similar to
shikantaza (clear mind) meditation; or that emphasize breathing or
recommend specfic postures. Have you?
Some Christian sects also have fasting, bowing or self-flaggelation
techniques that could lead to a clear-mind state.
Is it your intention to teach them Chan/zen meditation or to encourage
them to practice their native-Christian meditative practices?
...Bill!
