Hi Steve,
In our school, meditation is just a tool to "trim" and "cultivate" our
body, mind and spirit.
We also emphasize gradual cultivation and instant enlightenment.
The first practice: To transcend the human realm, we must eliminate the
Five poisons. In other words completely detached from forms, or
elimination of thinking.
The second practice: To maintain in the Bodhisatva realm, we must
perfect the "Six Dimensions for Thousand Acts". I have heard that this
was also labeled as Six Acts of Perfection or something. In other words,
complete synchronization of heart to heart of Buddha.
One day when there is enough merits, sudden enlightenment. My Teacher
did say, sudden enlightenment does not necessarily occur during meditation.

endorse the paradigm called "Instant Enlightenment and Gradual
Cultivation".
