Of course, in the relatively more modern period (contemporary with us), many 
Zen/Ch'an teachers write books.

It's a great source of income -- if the book SELLS -- for the teacher and/or 
their sangha.

My own late teacher, the monk Sheng Yen, wrote many books.

Some books have also been written about him.
