It is easy to agree with you, especially from the perspective of theravada and 
mahayana. But is it the zen way?

(I won't mouth the dictionary definition(s), because they are there for the 
taking, and for understanding by all).

In this zen forum, I would say that compassion is the behavior of a Buddha. 

Or I might say it in a little more explanatory way: Compassion is the behavior 
of an awakened sentient being.
