To me, a craftsman is one who imposes their 'will' upon the materials,
using tools and techniques - to put the materials into service.

A craftsman has a great love/appreciation for the materials and the this
resonance reflects in the applied process and finished product. Each
expression a unique interplay.

"Importance" and "friendliness" of products is marketing spin, and
'Design' is a subset of 'Marketing' (by which I mean Marketing for it's
own sake - as a reason for products rather than just a way to get them
to people ) - which I have lost a taste for. I am trained as an
Industrial Designer/Product designer, including art/craft/industrial
histories, processes, techniques, consumer behavior, etc. - but much
prefer handcraft/art "one offs" to more mass market things.

What is it you keep saying about being poor? *L*
